Celebrate Independence Day with these festive 4th of July Cookies! Made with a chewy, buttery dough marbled in red, white, and blue and loaded with milk chocolate chips, these cookies are the perfect sweet treat for your summer party or BBQ.

Ingredients

Scale

Essential Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups cake flour
  • 2 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cups milk chocolate chips

Optional Add-Ons:

  • Red gel food coloring
  • Blue gel food coloring
  • Edible glitter stars (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Pans: Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, cake flour, cornstarch, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugars: In a stand mixer, beat cold butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth and light in color.
  4. Add Eggs and Vanilla: Mix in eggs, egg yolks, and vanilla until fluffy and well combined.
  5. Add Dry Ingredients: Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined.
  6. Fold in Chocolate Chips: Stir in chocolate chips evenly without overmixing.
  7. Preheat Oven: Preheat to 400°F (200°C).
  8. Divide and Color Dough: Divide dough into 3 equal parts. Color one red, one blue, and leave one plain.
  9. Form Logs: Roll each section into a 15-inch log and press together to create a colorful twisted log.
  10. Slice and Shape: Slice into 1 to 1.5-inch pieces, roll into balls, and place on baking sheets spaced apart.
  11. Bake: Bake for 10 minutes or until edges are golden and centers are soft.
  12. Top with Chips: Add extra chocolate chips to the tops of warm cookies right out of the oven.
  13. Cool: Cool on the baking sheet for 5–10 minutes, then transfer to a rack.
  14. Decorate: Once cooled, add edible glitter stars for a festive sparkle.

Notes

  • Use gel food coloring for vibrant colors without altering dough consistency.
  • Chill dough for 20–30 minutes if it’s too soft to roll into logs.
  • For extra festive flair, use red, white, and blue M&Ms instead of chocolate chips.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
