Description

A delicious and nutritious stir-fry dish featuring tender flank steak and crisp broccoli, served in a flavorful sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 450 to 560 grams of flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup of cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons of olive oil, divided
  • 2 tablespoons of sesame oil, divided
  • 4 cloves of garlic, pressed or finely chopped
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons of ginger, or to taste
  • 1/2 cup of low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 3/4 cup of packed brown sugar
  • 4 to 6 cups of broccoli florets
  • 2 to 3 green onions, cut into segments
  • Red pepper flakes, for a bit of heat (optional)
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large resealable bag, combine the thinly sliced flank steak with cornstarch. Seal and shake to coat the meat evenly.
  2. In a saucepan, heat a tablespoon of olive oil and sesame oil over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and ginger, sautéing them for about a minute until fragrant. Pour in the low-sodium soy sauce, water, and brown sugar. Bring the mixture to a boil and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until the sugar has dissolved. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.
  3. In a large skillet, add the remaining oils. Once hot, add the steak and cook for approximately 5 to 7 minutes, stirring frequently until browned.
  4. Add the broccoli florets and pour over the sauce, mixing well. Allow it to simmer together for about 3 to 5 minutes until the broccoli is tender yet vibrant.
  5. If a thicker sauce is desired, dissolve a tablespoon of cornstarch in water and add it to the pan, stirring until it reaches your desired consistency.
  6. Remove from heat, toss in green onions, and, if desired, sprinkle with red pepper flakes and sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

Ensure not to overcook the steak for the best texture. Serve with brown rice or quinoa for a complete meal.
