Description
A comforting and nostalgic meal featuring tender cube steaks soaked in buttermilk, coated in seasoned flour, and fried until crispy, served with rich country gravy.

- 4 cube steaks (about 1/2 inch thick)
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- Salt & pepper to taste
- Oil for frying
- Milk for gravy (whole or 2%)
Instructions
- Soak the steaks in buttermilk for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.
- Set up a dredging station with eggs and flour seasoned with spices.
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat until it reaches about 350°F.
- Dredge steaks in flour, then egg, and back to flour.
- Fry the steaks for about 4–5 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Make the country gravy from drippings, flour, and milk, whisking until smooth.
- Serve steaks topped with gravy and garnish with parsley.
Notes
Leftovers keep well for 2 days in the refrigerator. Reheat in the oven for the best texture.
