Cheesy Philly Cheesesteak Pasta

  • Author: Sarah Mendez
  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

This Philly Cheesesteak Pasta is a comforting twist on a classic sandwich. Tender rigatoni is tossed with savory ground beef, sautéed veggies, and a rich, creamy provolone cheese sauce that captures all the flavors of a traditional Philly cheesesteak — no hoagie roll required!

Ingredients

Scale

Essential Ingredients:

  • 10 ounces rigatoni pasta
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 8 ounces fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 large green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cups milk (whole or half-and-half)
  • 1 cup provolone cheese, diced or shredded
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Optional Add-Ons:

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Red pepper flakes (to taste)
  • Additional cheese (e.g., mozzarella or cheddar)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta: Boil rigatoni according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  2. Sauté the veggies: In a large skillet, cook mushrooms, bell pepper, and onion over medium heat until softened. If using, add garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
  3. Brown the beef: Add ground beef to the skillet with the veggies. Cook until fully browned. Drain any excess grease.
  4. Make the sauce: Reduce heat to low. Stir in the milk and bring to a gentle simmer. Add provolone cheese, stirring until melted and smooth. If using, add Italian seasoning and red pepper flakes.
  5. Combine: Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and toss to coat everything in the cheesy sauce.
  6. Garnish and serve: Sprinkle with fresh parsley and serve warm.

Notes

  • For a richer sauce, use half-and-half instead of milk.
  • Feel free to use thinly sliced steak instead of ground beef for a more authentic cheesesteak vibe.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheated with a splash of milk.
