Description

These delightful puff pastry hearts are filled with whipped cream, chocolate hazelnut spread, and fresh strawberries—crispy, creamy, fruity, and easy to make in the air fryer or oven.

Ingredients

Scale

Essentials:

  • 1 sheet ready-rolled puff pastry
  • 1 small egg
  • 1 tsp milk or water
  • Granulated sugar (optional, for sprinkling)
  • 250 ml (1 cup) double cream (heavy cream), cold
  • 30 g (4 tbsp) icing sugar (plus extra for dusting)
  • 12 tsp chocolate hazelnut spread (like Nutella)
  • Fresh strawberries, thinly sliced

Optional Add-Ons:

  • Nut-free chocolate spread
  • Cream cheese (mixed with whipped cream)

Substitutions and Shortcuts:

  • Use refrigerated pie crust in place of puff pastry (texture will vary)
  • Store-bought whipped cream can be used for convenience

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Egg Wash: In a small bowl, beat 1 egg with 1 tsp milk or water.
  2. Cut Out the Pastry Hearts: Unroll puff pastry and cut 12 hearts using a heart-shaped cookie cutter.
  3. Preheat: Preheat air fryer to 180°C (350°F), or oven to 200°C (180°C fan).
  4. Air Fry the Pastry: Place pastry hearts in the air fryer basket with 3 cm spacing. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with sugar (if using). Air fry for 8 minutes or bake for 8–10 minutes until golden. Cool completely.
  5. Whip the Cream: In a large bowl, whip the cold cream with icing sugar until stiff peaks form. Transfer to piping bag with a large star nozzle.
  6. Slice Pastries: Use a serrated knife to carefully slice each pastry heart in half horizontally.
  7. Add Chocolate and Cream: Spread 1 tsp chocolate hazelnut spread on the bottom half. Pipe 3 dollops of whipped cream on top in a triangle pattern.
  8. Add Strawberries: Place 3 thin strawberry slices over the whipped cream.
  9. Top and Dust: Place the top pastry heart over the filling and gently press. Dust with icing sugar before serving.

Notes

  • Pastries are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in the fridge for up to 1 day.
  • Make sure pastries are completely cooled before adding whipped cream to avoid melting.
  • Use a serrated knife for best results when slicing the puff pastry hearts.
