Description

This Pastry Nutella Wreath is a warm, chocolatey treat that looks impressive but is easy to make, perfect for a cozy breakfast or dessert.


Ingredients

  • 1 sheet of ready-roll puff pastry (thawed if frozen; usually about 250–275g)
  • 34 tablespoons Nutella or another chocolate-hazelnut spread
  • 1 small egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tsp water (to thin the egg for the egg wash)
  • Icing sugar (for dusting before serving)
  • Chopped hazelnuts or almonds (optional)
  • Sliced bananas or strawberries (optional)
  • A light sprinkle of cinnamon or cocoa powder (optional)
  • A few teaspoons of jam (optional)
  • Powdered sugar glaze (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C (180°C fan) and line a baking sheet.
  2. Thaw puff pastry in the refrigerator if frozen, or let sit at room temperature until pliable.
  3. Roll out the sheet of puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to about 1/8-inch thick.
  4. Warm Nutella until spreadable and spread evenly over the puff pastry, leaving a 1/2-inch border.
  5. Fold the pastry for extra flakiness (optional) and cut off excess edges.
  6. Cut a hole in the center of the pastry (if folded) and then slice the pastry into 12–16 equal strips.
  7. Twist each strip away from you and tuck the ends under to form the wreath shape.
  8. Beat egg with water and brush over the wreath for a glossy finish.
  9. Bake for 20 minutes, cover loosely with foil, and bake for another 30 minutes, checking for doneness.
  10. Cool for 10–15 minutes, dust with icing sugar, and serve.

Notes

Customize the wreath with nuts, fruits, or different spreads, and be mindful not to overfill with Nutella.
