Description

These Simple Fried Peach Hand Pies are a nostalgic Southern-style treat made with juicy peaches, warm spices, and flaky pie crust—all fried to golden perfection and finished with a sweet glaze. Whether you use fresh or canned peaches, these hand pies deliver comforting flavor in every bite. Perfect for summer gatherings, weekend treats, or whenever you’re craving something crispy and sweet.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 (15 oz) cans sliced peaches (cut in half) – or use fresh peaches if in season
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1½ tsp cornstarch – for thickening the filling
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 (2-count packs) refrigerated pie crusts – thawed
  • Cooking oil – for frying (vegetable or canola oil recommended)

For the Icing:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tbsp milk, water, or fruit juice
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract (optional)

Optional Add-Ins:

  • Fresh fruit like raspberries or blueberries
  • Chopped nuts (pecans or almonds)
  • Alternative extracts (almond or lemon)

Substitutions: Pears or apples instead of peaches, flour instead of cornstarch, honey/maple syrup instead of sugar, and brown sugar glaze instead of icing.

Instructions

  1. Make the Icing: In a bowl, whisk powdered sugar with milk (or liquid of choice) until smooth. Add vanilla if desired. Set aside.
  2. Prepare the Filling: In a bowl, combine drained peaches, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cornstarch, and vanilla. Mix gently to coat.
  3. Shape the Pies: Roll out pie crusts and cut into 4-inch circles using a biscuit cutter or glass. Reroll scraps to maximize yield.
  4. Fill and Fold: Place ~2 tbsp of filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold over to form half-moons and press edges to seal. Crimp with a fork if desired.
  5. Fry: Heat oil in a skillet to 325°F. Fry 3–4 pies at a time, 30–45 seconds per side, until golden brown. Drain on paper towels or a cooling rack.
  6. Ice the Pies: Once slightly cooled, drizzle icing generously over the fried pies. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Make Ahead: You can prepare the filling a day in advance and store it in the fridge.
  • Serving Tip: These pies are fantastic with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dusting of cinnamon sugar.
  • Storage: Best enjoyed fresh but can be kept in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven for crispiness.
