Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup tomato sauce – provides the rich base for the BBQ sauce
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar – adds tangy brightness
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar – brings rich sweetness and depth
- 1/4 cup honey – balances the heat with natural sweetness
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce – adds savory umami flavor
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder – for warm, aromatic depth
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder – for a hint of sharp, zesty flavor
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt – enhances all the flavors
- 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper – gives the sauce its spicy kick
- 2 fresh peaches, peeled and chopped – the star ingredient for juicy, fruity sweetness
- 1/2 cup peach preserves – intensifies the peach flavor and creates a glossy finish
Optional Add-Ons:
- Smoked paprika – adds smokiness
- Fresh herbs (thyme, rosemary) – for herbal complexity
- Crushed red pepper flakes – to increase heat
Substitutions: Use canned peaches if fresh aren’t available; swap Worcestershire for soy sauce or a vegan alternative if needed.
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the tomato sauce, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, honey, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, kosher salt, cayenne pepper, and chopped peaches. Stir to mix well.
- Cook the Sauce: Bring to a low boil, then reduce to a simmer. Let the sauce cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened and the peaches have softened. It should coat the back of a spoon.
- Add Peach Preserves: Stir in the peach preserves and cook for another 1–2 minutes until fully incorporated and glossy.
- Cool and Store: Allow the sauce to cool slightly before transferring to a container. Serve warm or store in the fridge in an airtight jar for up to 3 days.
Notes
- Storage: Keep in the refrigerator in a sealed container for up to 3 days. Reheat gently before serving.
- Blending Option: For a smoother texture, blend the sauce with an immersion blender before adding the preserves.
- Serving Ideas: Great on grilled chicken, pork chops, pulled pork, or as a glaze for roasted vegetables.
