Description

A creamy and comforting banana pudding that combines layers of ripe bananas, vanilla pudding, and whipped topping, perfect for potlucks or a cozy night in.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 boxes (about 910 oz. each) vanilla wafers
  • 68 ripe bananas, sliced
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • 1 (5 oz.) box French vanilla instant pudding mix
  • 1 (8 oz.) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 (12 oz.) container whipped topping, thawed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • A pinch of ground cinnamon or nutmeg (optional)
  • A handful of chopped toasted pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • Fresh mint leaves or extra banana slices for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep your dish and bananas by arranging a layer of vanilla wafers at the bottom of a 13×9-inch baking dish.
  2. Slice the bananas and layer them over the wafers in a single even layer.
  3. Pour 2 cups of cold milk into a medium mixing bowl.
  4. Add the French vanilla pudding mix to the milk and whisk for about 2 minutes until smooth.
  5. In a separate bowl, blend the cream cheese and sweetened condensed milk until silky and lump-free.
  6. Fold the whipped topping into the cream cheese mixture, then add the prepared pudding mix in two batches, folding gently.
  7. Pour the creamy mixture over the layered bananas and wafers.
  8. Arrange the remaining vanilla wafers on top.
  9. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight before serving.

Notes

For a lighter version, substitute with lower-fat milk and cream cheese. Assemble the pudding shortly after slicing the bananas to prevent browning.
